LSAG: How to Use The Newsletter

This is to assist members in reading the newsletter.  Click on READ MORE --or--  the headline "LSAG:  How to Use the Newsletter" to learn more & read the full post.  Or look to the RIGHT and click "Visit LSAG's Blog".

That is the first and MOST IMPORTANT thing you need to know.  You must CLICK to read the post...or you will not have all of the details.

The newsletter you get in your email box each week is a page with a series of teasers.  You see the HEADLINE at the top of each post in a burgundy color. Again, you can click the headline or click the 'Read More', but you MUST CLICK SOMETHING if you want to read it in full.

Here are some examples:
This is an explanatory post & includes events that have passed to  help you see HOW to read the post---NOT as information.  Please see the current newsletter for the most updated info.

You can read the newsletter 2 ways:
-Read the ENTIRE newsletter IN FULL.
-Read JUST the INDIVIDUAL POSTS you are interested in.

To read the entire newsletter IN FULL, click on the link VISIT LSAG'S BLOG which will be on the upper right side of the email.  Once you click on that, you will see a watercolor abstract page.  If you don't, you are not on the blog main page.  You may have to click on Older Posts at the bottom to read the rest of that week's newsletter if it doesn't fit on one page.  Notice the publishing date to follow if an article is from that week or from a past week.

·         VISIT LSAG'S BLOG  <<<<<<<TO READ ALL OF THE NEWSLETTER

To read JUST the INDIVIDUAL POSTS you are interested in, click on the title or headline of the post or 'read more'.  Do not rely on reading the teaser seen in the email.  This will NOT give you the full details.  Scan the postings & click on the ones you wish to read.

TO READ JUST THE POST OR POSTS YOU ARE INTERESTED IN, CLICK THE HEADLINE/TITLE OR 'READ MORE' of EACH post of interest.

WHERE'S THE DATE?

Read the date of the event, the registration deadline date, or other important date information in the BODY of the post or the headline / title.  Do not mistake the publishing date UNDER the title for a date relating to the event.  The best way to avoid confusion is to click on the event you are interested in & read it.

Reminders For Those Who Post:

-Submissions must be sent to   lsagannouncements@gmail.com.  Emails sent to other addresses will likely NOT be received in time.

-The deadline each week we publish is Sunday midnight; NO exceptions.

-The best posts are simple emails.  JPEGS---the only attachment we can use--are best for a photo to embellish the text in your email.  JPEG documents often come out fuzzy & unclear.  It is limited how much we can enlarge them as the publishing system has pre-set sizes. So if your poster / document has tiny words, it will probably still be tiny when published.

-Leagues must combine multiple announcements when possible.  Each league has a max of 5 emails each week.  LSAG sanctioned show announcements always are separate & can be your 6th email.  NOTE: This is for LSAG Sanctioned Shows...NOT for other shows you do during the year.

-ANYone can submit ANY ART related announcement.  YOU or someone in your league is responsible for re-posting.  We do not re-post.

-Your submission is NOT instantly posted; it must be PUBLISHED.  As such, allow at least a week's time OR MORE when considering a posting.  We do not post events that have passed or will have passed by that Wednesday morning when they are received.

-Edit & check your post before sending.  Corrections / additions need to be RE-sent IN FULL with the full text corrected &/or any details added.  We will REPLACE your one article with the other.  We do NOT have time to go into your first one to fix it.  You must still submit your correction by the deadline, Sunday midnight.  This is for a significant correction like a wrong date or time and NOT for a misspelling or grammar mistake.  While we will make some grammatical corrections, it is time dependent.

-For the full Posting Policy, visit the page of the same name on the website.

-The newsletter is free advertising, but that privilege should not be abused.

A Couple of Notes to Make Your Post PROFESSIONAL
(and more likely to be read):

-Do you notice we do NOT put headlines in ALL capitals?  Please do NOT send it this way either.  All caps are harder for people to read.  Capitalize the FIRST letter of each word or each main word only.

WRONG---  ABC:  MEETING AND DEMO WITH PASTELIST MARY SMITH THURSDAY, JUNE 3RD

RIGHT---    ABC:  Meeting and Demo with Pastelist Mary Smith Thursday, June 3rd

********

-Do you notice in all recent posts we typically ALWAYS put the league letters first for official league posts?
When posting, you should do the same.  This helps LSAG and others identify the host league.

Examples:

Pasadena Art League would become PAL.  Denton Art Guild would become DAG.

********

-In the subject line of your post email, give the important, updated info:  the league or organization, the event, the date, the deadline as appropriate.

NOTE here, the date of publication was Apr. 13; the date of the event (in the teaser) was Apr. 16

-Keep your headline short and to the point.  Put other important information in your first couple of sentences.  That will be the teaser.

In the example above for the BFAL Plein Air Paint Out, we know from the headline WHAT is happening and WHEN.  We can also read in the teaser the TIME and LOCATION.  We also know that it is a benefit and the COST.  The last sentence ends with "...with old" followed by READ MORE.  To finish that sentence or read the full post, we have to click the READ MORE, the HEADLINE, or Click VISIT LSAG's BLOG.

-For announcements about shows, it is in your best interest to put the date of the show AND the deadline for registration or some other detail like you accept walk ins.

-If you  have a question about how to read the newsletter, please email us at  lsagannouncements@gmail.com. Remember to use NETIQUETTE when "speaking" to someone on email...use the same respect and politeness you should be using if you were speaking to them face to face in person.

Tips:
-Don't write in ALL CAPS; it is considered rude.
-Emphasize specific or important words with bold, italics, or underlining.
