In McMillan-Hayes' workshop, you will discover new approaches, techniques and texture for creating dynamic wildlife paintings from concept to completion. Students will also learn how to take reference photos and edit to create the best painting including; form, composition, design and color to create drama, how to see values, and the importance of light. We will also discuss an element of contemporary realism forgotten in many paintings…texture. Students will discover how to recreate and apply texture in appropriate places for the most dramatic effect. Vickie will also be available to critique your work and bring it to the next level. Some supplies are included, a list of supplies you will need will be provided upon signing up.

CAL: Ongoing Classes
Check our website (conroeartleague.com) for classes. We are continually adding new classes and have quite a line up already ongoing:
Portrait, Oil, Watercolor, Drawing
More classes are being scheduled so check our website often.
In addition to the weekly classes, a drawing group meets twice a month, a plein air group has outings, and if you have a photography question, a photographer will be at the gallery once a month on Thursdays.

CAL: Baker Plein Air Oil Workshop in May

Bringing It All Together will kick off with a lecture and demo. Students receive instruction on principles of painting ranging from color, value, composition, color theory and so much more. Every day, you will apply what is being taught by getting outside to paint; seeing, recording and observing nature as it changes. Suzie will demo on location and offer one-on-one instruction to all the students while they paint.
Suzie's personal goal is to identify every student's level and provide strategies to progress, through group instruction, example, and individual interaction. Her humorous, informative manner makes tackling this multi-faceted challenge a fun and rewarding experience.

Have you ever wondered how to Loosen-Up your painting style? Paint with more Freedom? Be more Spontaneous? Be more Expressive? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then my Bigger, Faster, Fresher, Looser Abstract Painting Workshop is for you! I will teach you how to do each of these realizing there should also be a firm foundation of structure for your paintings using shape, value, color, edges and center of interest. Here is some of what we'll cover:
- How to loosen up and paint spontaneously with no pre-planning
- How to use big brushes and lots of juicy paint
- How to paint from your heart, not your head
- How to create fresh beautiful color without making "mud"
- Art business information
- And much more!
This workshop is not only about painting abstract compositions, but also about learning to loosen-up and paint more freely. All who attend will be able to apply the lessons learned to their own style of painting in their studios.

Colored Pencil and Wax Pastel
Enhance your colored pencil skills or explore a new drawing medium with this hands-on workshop. Students will learn various techniques in colored pencil and wax pastel as they complete a small piece over the course of three days.
Anne has been making art in one form or another since before she can remember. She has tried various mediums, but always finds her way back to drawing and painting. It makes sense, considering she fell in love with drawing first. Anne's subject matter is where she tends to let go a bit. She revels in displaying objects or scenarios that really shouldn't exist together, but somehow complete one another. Soft and hard, sweet and terrifying, innocent and tarnished. Images that borderline on the uncomfortable, but still feel cohesive and unified. Her pieces tell a story, but not the whole story. They are windows into certain glimpses in a narrative that is already in play. Visions of things you catch out of the corner of your eye, but cannot be sure are real or merely ghosts of your imagination. annebyrdart.com
