Archway Gallery presents Woodland Waters: Allures of the Ozarks, featuring recent paintings by Harold Joiner, on view February 2 – 28, 2019.
The artist will be on hand to visit with guests during the exhibition opening reception on Saturday, February 2, from 5 – 8 p.m. at the gallery, and will talk about his work at 6:30 p.m.
Long fascinated by the reflections and stillness of the waters of Houston and the surrounding area, painter Harold Joiner has ventured further afield with this new body of work. Recent explorations and hiking expeditions in the Arkansas Ozarks revealed exciting new possibilities for the treatment of water in landscape paintings.
Joiner is an architect by profession and a graduate of Texas Tech University. His professional activities included numerous corporate, hotel, and institutional projects in Houston and other cities in the United States and abroad. He lived and worked in Saudi Arabia for ten years, working first for Saudi Aramco in its properties division and then for a private firm with offices in Saudi Arabia and Cairo, Egypt. He traveled extensively in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and South and Southest Asia. Returning to Houston in late 2001, he opted to indulge a lifelong interest in painting. He studied at the MFAH Glassell School, at Art League Houston, and under private tutors.
