The Art League of Baytown will host its 2nd exhibition in conjunction with FotoFest 2018 Biennial. This is a national "Call for Entries" for photographers seeking to exhibit in a FotoFest Participating Space.
Baytown is a suburb of the greater Houston area and is the sixth largest city in the 13-county Houston-Galveston area. The Art League of Baytown (ALB) was established in 1954 and incorporated as a 501(c)3 in 1963. There will be three other FotoFest Participating Spaces in Baytown: Sterling Municipal Library, Lee College Gallery and Lee College Library. Their exhibitions also will follow the global theme of "meditation."
FotoFest is an international non-profit photographic arts and education organization based in Houston, Texas. Its first international Biennial of Photography and Photo-related Art in the United States was created in 1986. Their programs work locally and globally to promote the cross-cultural exchange of art and ideas. The official dates of FotoFest 2018 Biennial are March 10 through April 22, 2018.
MEDITATION: CONTEMPLATING STILLNESS will be juried early for inclusion in FotoFest's advance publicity schedule. All of the names of the participating photographers will be listed in the Art League of Baytown layout in the FotoFest 2018 Catalogue. Cash Awards.

JURORS: Steve Goff and Beckwith Thompson, Odessa College, Odessa, TX
MEDITATION: CONTEMPLATING STILLNESS is a theme that offers multiple interpretations and the jurors seek both traditional and innovative representations of the subject. "We are likely to choose images that are evocative, perhaps emotional, and indeed, display a sense of quiet and stillness."
Steve Goff, Professor and Program Head of Photography, has taught at Odessa College since 1984. He received his BFA and MFA from Ohio University and taught at the Maine Photographic Workshops, Lakeland and Cuyahoga Community Colleges, and Cleveland State University before moving to Texas. He awards include the Aid to Individual Artist Fellowship from the Ohio Arts Council and the Fellowship Award in Photography from the Mid-America Arts Alliance/National Endowment for the Arts. He represented the Fellowship winners at Mois de la Photo in Paris, France. He has an extensive exhibition record including FotoFest 2016 Biennial in Houston and Marfa Open 2016 in Marfa, TX. Steve teaches workshops around the state and region. Currently, he serves on the Board of Directors for Texas Photographic Society as well as the Odessa Council for the Arts and Humanities.
Beckwith Thompson has served as Adjunct Instructor in Photography at Odessa College since 1997 and previously taught at UT-Permian Basin as well as Texas Tech University in Lubbock. She received her BS in Communication from The University of Texas at Austin and MFA in Photography and Printmaking from Texas Tech University. Beckwith's work has been in numerous solo and group exhibitions in the state and the FotoFest Biennial in 2008. While she is a native of West Texas, she has an extensive travel history. As the owner of Beckwith Thompson Studio she specializes in art portraits of women of all ages. Beckwith sees the world with an artist's eyes and shares her vision with students and clients both locally and internationally.
Artists must be at least 18 years of age and reside in the United States. Work must have been completed without supervision within the last five years (2012 to 2017).
The Entry Fee is $40.00 total for a maximum of five (5) works per artist. ALB Members pay an entry fee of $35.00 total for a maximum of five (5) works. Membership in the Art League of Baytown is $30/year. In the event of a sale, the ALB takes 15% of the sale price for members. For non-members, ALB takes a 30% commission. Sales tax and credit card fees will be paid by Art League of Baytown.
Artwork following the theme and using any photographic medium may be submitted. Work will be selected in accordance with the guidelines of this family-friendly art center. The accepted works should be framed using good quality black, silver or white frames no larger than 36" on the longest side.. Work should be matted with white mat board and at least 2" of mat should be included. Plexiglas is required. Wiring for installation is required; no saw-tooth hangers. The ALB, the curator and the jurors reserve the right to reject any artwork that doesn't comply with these specifications. All selected work must remain on view at the gallery until the close of the exhibition.
