2020 NWAL SPRING OPEN ART SHOW
The Northwest Art League will hold its Spring  Open Judged Art Show on Saturday March 21, 2020 at  Kinsmen Lutheran  Church, 12100  Champion Forest Dr, Houston, TX 77066. 
This show will be judged by Susan Giannantonio. Susan has been painting and teaching watercolor and water media for many years. She has been an active member of the Watercolor Art Society Houston. She also owns Mayville Watercolors Gallery, Mayville, NY where she teaches each summer.
 
ELIGIBILITY: The show is open to 1) NWAL members, 2) members of Lone Star Art Guild Clubs, 3) non-member artists and 4) adult and school students. We especially encourage school students to enter their art in the show. There is no limit on the number of art works an artist may enter in the show. To be eligible for entering the show the art must have been completed within the last 2 years, cannot have won first place in a prior show and cannot have been previously entered in a Lone Star Annual Convention Show. If you are not current on your NWAL annual dues, they may be paid at the show. If you would like to join the NWAL, you may do so at Artwork Intake or at the show.

MARKET STREET NOW ACCEPTING EXHIBITOR 
APPLICATIONS FOR 2020 SPRING FINE ARTS SHOW

THE WOODLANDS, TX (January 29, 2020) – Amateur and professional artists 
alike are invited to showcase their paintings, photography, jewelry, 
metal works, sculptures, digital art, mixed media and other works of art 
at Market Street's 2020 Spring Fine Arts Show on Saturday, May 2 from 10 
am – 7 pm.

Free and open to the public, the Spring Fine Arts Show at Market Street 
is one of the most popular gatherings for artists in The Woodlands where 
families can browse for great buys, enjoy live music and participate in 
artist demonstrations.

A 10'x10' tented exhibit space is $150 and a 10'x20' tented space is 
$275. Electricity for booths is limited and available to exhibitors on 
a first come, first serve basis for $50. Tables and chairs are also 
available for a rental fee.

In the event of rain, the show will be moved to Saturday, May 9, 2020.

Call For Art - WAL Members' Art Show and Sale at Market Street







We are very excited about our upcoming show and sale at Market Street in the Woodlands! The show will be held in the old "Kate Spade" store (9595 Six Pines Dr.). It will run from March 7th-March 22nd. Please read the event details below and start getting ready for this great opportunity. You will be able to register on-line by the end of the week.

Event Details:
  • Participants must be WAL members.
  • Art should not exceed 18x24 including the frame. Due to limited space, anything larger than 18x24 will be juried into the show.
  • Art must be appropriate to be seen by all ages.     Each piece must be framed, or the sides of the canvas/board must be finished. The back should have a wire hanger and not a sawtooth picture hanger.
  • Most smaller pieces will be displayed on shelves.
  • All mediums are accepted including, ceramics, pottery, tiles, and photography. This show will not include jewelry.
  • Each artist may display up to 3 pieces.
  • Artist are required to pay a $10 entry fee for each piece and a sign-up for 3 ½ hour docent shift.
  • Artists will register and pay on the www.woodlandsartleague.org by February 29th.
  • Art must be dropped off at 9595 Six Pines Dr., The Woodlands on Sunday, March 1st from 2:00-5:00pm or Monday, March 2nd from 10:00-2:00pm.
  • Art will be picked up from the same location on March 22nd from 12:00-5:30pm.
  • WAL will receive a 20% commission from each sale.

ALFB mini-workshop by Mary Lowe March 23, 2020



Mary Lowe is the demo artist at the general meeting on March 23rd, followed by a mini-workshop entitled "Spring Flower Garden Necklace."   Participants will create their own French-style beaded wirework fantasy flower necklace from lampwork art glass floral headpins, wire, Italian hammered brass chain, and vintage and collectible glass and metal flower beads.  No jewelry making experience is necessary.  A complete kit (many colors to choose from) is provided for each student, and shared tools and extra supplies will be available for classroom use.  Each participant will leave with a unique finished necklace!  The workshop fee is $50 for members, $55 for non-members and includes all materials.  The meeting and workshop will be at the Fort Bend Art Center, 2012 Avenue G, Rosenberg, TX 77471.  For further information, or to sign up for the workshop, contact:  Portia Bell, artbyportia@sbcglobal.net

Rummage SALE Annual Scholarship Fundraiser

All proceeds go toward scholarships for 3 deserving high school seniors (One from each of Baytown's high schools) who wish to continue their art education into college.
Items for the sale have been donated by members and friends of the Art League of Baytown. All kinds of goodies will be up for grabs. Including artwork, frames, and a variety of art supplies and art related publications. But there will also be all kinds of non-art related items – furniture, home goods, holiday décor, and more. You never know what you'll find.
If you would like to helpDonations are being accepted now. They should be boxed and priced. Please bring them to the Art Center and place them in the upstairs "kitchen" area. A donation letter for tax purposes is available upon request. And we can always use volunteers the day of the sale and in the days leading up to it for set up.

Come play with clay!  Class sessions available fall, winter and spring and are held in my studio space in Montgomery…. next series begins Tuesday, March 24, 2020.  Designed for beginner and intermediate students, you have the option of instruction in a variety of methods of clay creation, or instructor assistance with projects of your choice. 
The fee includes bisque and glaze firings and use of glazes for art done in class.  Cone 5 clay is available for purchase separately.

Local league updates will be taken next in February.  If your league has December or January elections or has otherwise had some change(s) since October of 2019 in leadership for the positions listed below, please do the following 2 things:

Brenham Fine Arts League Spring Open Show Feb. 22



The Downtown Art Gallery, 113 Alamo St. in Brenham, will be the location of the  BFAL Spring Open Judged Art Show on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2020.  Registration forms are online at www.brenhamfal.com, under Upcoming Events on the NEWS dropdown menu.  Deadline for entries is Monday, February 17, 2020.  Art intake will be Friday, February 21 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday, February 22 from 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.  Judging will begin at 10 a.m.  Cash awards will be given in addition to LSAG qualifying ribbons.
