The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival Artists' Showcase
Best of Show Artists' Profiles
Each month, we are showcasing several of the artists who displayed their works at the 2019 Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival and were selected as Best in Show in their category. Enjoy reading their personal thoughts about their passion for art and how they express it in their chosen medium.
Deb Wight, Mixed Media 3D
Creating positive and uplifting art that delights people has always been my passion and mission. I am blessed to be a full-time artist. Honing my style and working with pastels, mosaics, photography, acrylics and stained glass led me to combine two materials very few artists do – glass and copper. I decoratively solder hand cut art glass onto a field of copper, then through unique textures and patinas, I create an end result that is stunning.

My studio was thoughtfully designed into my home in the Texas Hill Country, where nature inspires my creativity. Celebrating life and sharing my joy with others is what you will experience when you meet me.
Igor Menaker Photography/Digital
Photography for me is an expression of my imagination, my personal reality. My images tell a story. They speak about me, my values, my hopes, my ambitions, and ultimately what I deem worthy of your energy and attention.

As for technical aspects of my photography, I use Nikon cameras but frankly it does not matter what you use, but how you use it. I employ a special photographic technique called multi-row panorama. Each image is a combination of about a hundred shots in a grid layout stitched together. It takes me about an hour on location to make a single image and then about a week to post-process it in a digital darkroom.
Cooper School Art Faculty Generous with Time and Talent
On behalf of the five members of the Art Faculty of The John Cooper School, Visual Arts Department Chair Bob Mosier presented a donation of $900 to Board President Deb Spiess to go toward The Woodlands Arts Council's Because Art Matters Education and Outreach Programs. The funds were raised through a Faculty Art Auction held in conjunction with Cooper's month-long Fine Arts Festival in April.

Pictured are Fine Arts Council Co-Presidents (far left) and Festival Co-Chairs (far right). This is the fifth year Cooper Art Faculty have been generous with their time and talents and Mosier encourages Art Faculty from other schools to consider doing a similar outreach.

Deb Spiess Passes Presidential Gavel to Dr. Maria Holmes
Deb Spiess (right), who has had an amazing two-year run as President of the Board of The Woodlands Arts Council, recently passed the presidential gavel to Incoming President, Dr. Maria Holmes. In addition to devoting her time, hard work and passion to TWAC, Deb is Director of Marketing and Communications for The John Cooper School. Multi-tasking is her forte, and she accomplished both jobs with incredible dedication, efficiency and grace.

Dr. Holmes is another very accomplished and busy lady who is looking forward to leading the TWAC board into a new and exciting phase. She also enjoys her academic career as Associate Dean and Terry Scholars Coordinator, Honors College, SHSU.
