RECORD-SETTING NUMBER OF 2-D and 3-D ART RECEIVED
FOR ARCHWAY GALLERY 10TH ANNUAL JURIED ART SHOW

winners low-resNearly 300 pieces were submitted for the 10th Annual Archway Gallery Juried Art Show, benefiting Rescue Bank, an organization which provides pet food and supplies to area shelters.   The open-themed show saw a variety of 2-D and 3-D art submitted, but ultimately 62 pieces were selected for display.  Winners and honorable mentions were announced at a reception at the gallery on July 7 and all are on display until August 2.
Selected juror, Diane Griffin Gregory, commented, “Houston is a creative community and this show is every bit a reflection of that.”  She continued, “I hope gallery visitors will enjoy the show’s whimsy, sculptures, landscapes, and the many forms of creativity on display, which I felt were an overwhelming reflection of all of the collection,” said Griffin.

First place was awarded to Betsy Evans for her ceramic sculpture Trojan Goat. Evans received a $500 cash award with guest artist privileges for one month at Archway Gallery.  Second place was awarded to Judith R. Shamp for her mixed media collage, Generous Sufficiency, & third place went to Habibah Haugstad for her 3D work, Songs from My Childhood.  Five Honorable Mentions were also awarded (see exhibiting artists below).

Archway Gallery began its juried exhibition series in 2009 to broaden opportunities for artists and to support local nonprofit organizations, donating 50% of the proceeds to a community partner.  This year the gallery is partnering with Rescue Bank, a Signature Program of GreaterGood.org, which collects and delivers donated pet food and supplies to the animal rescue community through its regional affiliates. There are no formal pet food banks for families in the Houston area.  Rescue Bank, through its mission, has delivered more than 250 million meals to pets since 2011.  Donations are needed to help area organizations maintain an emergency supply of pet food in advance of hurricane season. Starting July 17, Archway Gallery will also host a pet food drive and is seeking donations of pet food through July 28.  Donations can be dropped off at the gallery during normal business hours, Monday – Saturday from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. and on Sunday from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.  To see a list of needs visit @archwaygallery on Facebook.
