Archway Gallery is once again honored to be a part of the annual Empty Bowls fundraising endeavor. This grassroots effort is organized by local artists and craftspeople in cities and towns across the country to feed the hungry in their communities.

Empty Bowls Houston, benefiting the Houston Food Bank, is presented by local sponsors and implemented locally by Houston-area artists working in various media. For a minimum $25 donation, attendees of the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft event have the pleasure of selecting a bowl from hundreds of one-of-a-kind, handcrafted bowls donated by Houston area craft artists. Participants then receive a simple lunch of soup and bread.

At Archway Gallery, over 30 finely crafted, one-of-a-kind bowls made of ceramic, wood, glass, and fiber will be displayed in addition to the work submitted by both 2D and 3D Archway Gallery artists. The Empty Bowls artwork may be purchased through the month-long Silent Auction with proceeds benefitting the Houston Food Bank.

About the Houston Food Bank
The Houston Food Bank is a solution to both hunger and food waste. This organization is the largest of its kind in America and is nationally recognized as Feeding America's Food Bank of the Year in 2015. The Food Bank distributes 79 million nutritious meals through its network of 600 food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and other hunger relief charities in southeast Texas, feeding 800,000 individuals each year.
Fresh produce, meat and nonperishables are distributed from the warehouse at 535 Portwall, and meals for kids are prepared and distributed from Keegan Center, a 15,000 square-foot industrial kitchen. We rescue food before it reaches the landfill through our Retail Pickup program with area grocery stores. Additional community services include nutrition education, school-based programs, and food stamp application assistance. Red Barrels offer a convenient way for grocery shoppers to donate nonperishables for their neighbors in need. The Houston Food Bank, founded in 1982, is a certified member of Feeding America, the nation's food bank network, with a four-star rating from Charity Navigator.
